A moment can decide everything. It can produce positive results or dull the joy of victory. One moment today was the decision. But it was not the moment that Franco Morbidelli won the victory in Valencia. Even though the duel with Jack Miller in the final laps was exciting. It was the moment that happened after crossing the finish line. Then when Joan Mir rolled over the finish line in fourth place. A fourth place that was so much more. It was the moment when one dream came true and another dream came true.
Joan Mir is the new MotoGP World Champion. 20 years after Kenny Roberts Jr won the last title for Suzuki. A rider, a manufacturer, a team that at the beginning of the year no one would have given a chance. I became World Champion that year, where continuity and calm were the most important things. Yes, he became world champion in the year when Marc Marquez was not there. So, does it diminish the success of Joan Mir, of the Suzuki team or of the other riders who showed a great season? No. It just shows how important it is to do the right thing at the right moment.
Joan Mir took his chance. He uses every moment to put himself in a good starting position. The Suzuki rider gave us exciting duels and great races. It is deserved. The hard work, continuity and passion paid off. Now we can look forward to the last race of the 2020 season and a new track. I’m looking forward to next weekend and the new moments that await us.
