MotoGP Season 2024: Back to back race before the summer break

First Assen, now the Sachsenring – back to back on two traditional tracks brought the first half of the MotoGP season to a grandiose conclusion. While the Sachsenring celebrated a new spectator record, we take a look back at the races of the MotoGP season so far.

The battle for the crown

So far, the 2024 season has been dominated by Ducati and the duel for the MotoGP crown between Pecco Bagnaia and Jorge Martin. Ducati works team against Ducati customer team, Ducati against Pramac. Where last year Pecco showed nerves from time to time, the Ducati factory rider now seems to be more stable. The fleeting mistakes have disappeared and the full focus is on defending the world championship title. His performance in Assen was an absolute demonstration of power – he dominated every session and both races.

While Bagnaia consistently shows his class, Jorge Martin seems to be slowly losing his nerve. The race at the Sachsenring illustrated this when Martin, who was leading, crashed on the penultimate lap and thus gave away the victory. Bagnaia seized the opportunity and took the win, while Martin was unable to withstand the pressure.

A fierce duel where every inaccuracy was exploited by the opponent. The two are separated by just 10 points in the riders’ standings.

The Sachsenring highlights

The race at the Sachsenring offered numerous highlights. Bagnaia triumphed, while Marc Marquez rode to second place after an impressive fightback from 13th on the grid. Alex Marquez finished third and joined his brother on the podium for the first time.

The 85th Motorcycle Grand Prix at the Sachsenring once again set a new attendance record. A total of 252,826 visitors flocked to the traditional race track over the three days of the event. This means that the Sachsenring remains the biggest single sporting event in Germany.

A look ahead

The first half of the season is now behind us and it remains exciting to see how the world championship will develop. Will Bagnaia and Ducati be able to continue their dominance? Will Jorge Martin get his nerves under control and attack again? And what surprises does the second half of the season have in store for us? Which way will the rider carousel turn for the 2025 season? Will there be another change of manufacturer for a team? One thing which is certain: The MotoGP remains exciting.
