Last weekend the time had come – Lennox Lehmann returned to the race track. After his serious injury last September, the road back on the bike seemed uncertain and tough at first. But Lennox never gave up and fought his way back. His 2024 season will now also start with his entry in the IDM Supersport.

Switch to the IDM Supersport

After almost seven months, Lennox’s path led him to a new class, a new championship and a new team. His decision to venture into a higher class had already been made before his racing accident. It was only afterwards that he decided which team and in which championship. Lennox opted for the Yamalube Motorsport Kofler Team and a start in the IDM Supersport.

The Yamalube Motorsport Kofler team pursued a clear strategy with Lennox: no unnecessary pressure, instead a cautious approach to the old performance level. Step by step, with calculated risk, with the aim of building Lennox up sustainably. An approach that is special, as motorcycle racing is characterized by pressure.

Preparing for the comeback

Last September, Lennox Lehmann’s season in the World Supersport 300 came to an abrupt end. A fatal racing accident in the first race in Aragon, Spain, was followed by a long stay in hospital. After successful surgery on his spine and thigh, the long road to recovery began

In preparation for his comeback, Lennox Lehmann completed hours of training and rehabilitation. It was a constant battle against the pain and against his own physical limits. Initially, it was not clear how quickly Lennox would return to his bike. But Lennox was determined to make his way back as quickly as possible and it worked. After seven months, it was back to the race track.

A promising weekend

The IDM weekend at the Sachsenring was not just a race, but also a home race for Lennox Lehmann. Lennox’s performance was very good throughout the entire race weekend. Again and again the Yamaha rider was able to set exclamation marks. The first was on Friday in the first free practice session, when he took third place. This was followed by third place on the grid for the two races in the second qualifying session on Saturday. With a seventh and fourth place in the races, Lennox Lehmann put in an impressive performance considering his journey to this point. Even though Lennox was not entirely satisfied, his race pace showed that he could have finished on the podium. The race weekend showed the current status and also the things that Lennox still needs to work on.

It was a good start to the 2024 IDM season and a successful comeback.
