MotoGP Misano II: Re-match in Misano

Re-match in Misano. Which team, which driver could learn best from the first race in Misano? Who could improve? Who stopped in his development? This season with its changed race calendar is a tough one. The fact that due to the current situation several races are held on the same track offers many possibilities. The drivers have more time to adapt to the track. You can see that from the lap times, which have become faster and faster. The team can adjust the bike better and learn from mistakes.

But all this progress can also guarantee disadvantages, because only 13 drivers finished the race in Misano today. No, it wasn’t a rain race, even though it seemed so promising in the Moto2 race. It was a race in the best conditions. It was a race at the limit and for some the limit was exhausted. It was too much wanted. That’s the danger that comes with a re-match race.

Today we saw the sixth winner in the seventh race. What can I say? This is 2020. A year with surprises. A year with new faces. A year with new, old strength?

Valentino Rossi has already experienced an upswing in recent times. Now this upturn seems to have spilled over to his team-mate Maverick Vinales. The Spaniard has been struggling with the Yamaha since the beginning of the season and with the not always positive voices. To say that it hasn’t occupied him would be a lie. Because you could see the relief and joy today when he crossed the finish line. It all fell off. Maybe the trip to Valentino Rossi’s range helped him to get a clear head. Vinales clinched his 24th victory, his eighth in the premier class. It was perhaps one of the most important wins for him.

We are now looking at eight races in ten weeks. A retirement is not allowed. The finale will take place on a track that is new for everyone! Portimao. There will be two test days, but only for the teams. The riders have to explore and get to know the track on road bikes. Now the hot phase begins – the second half of the season. It has never been so close before. We can be curious.
